Hawaiian Horticulture was started by James Edwards with direction from Chris Bortz.
Due to the poor quality of products in typical garden shops and the total lack of personal assistance, costumer service, and plant knowledge found in commercial shops there has been a void in the garden/nursery market.
James has been encouraged to use his technical horticultural knowledge and his access to the newest technologies, tried-and-true products, and old school methodology to open a business that focuses on improving the horticultural/agricultural industries without sacrificing the all important human and ecological elements.
Not to mention that he knows what it is like to be a home gardener. He always sets his prices so that the consumer will have the ability to produce their own food at a higher quality and a lower price than the supermarket. Feel free to pick his brain, James is always willing to answer any horticultural question, that's within his scope of expertise, for free. Just expect your answer and a little extra, because he tends to include any other relevant information that he feels would help your situation.
In the end James is in the industry simply because he loves plants and he wants to make sure that agriculture/horticulture does not become a specialized science, but rather a tool for everyone to enjoy.

James was raised on an upstate NY farm in a close community that primarily grows organic but many neighbors have switched to growing test crops for GMO producers.  He has achieved degrees in horticulture production and tropical horticulture and a certificate in plant tissue culture.  James has always held an interest in bio-engineering and environmental conservation. He has taken genetics and plant bio-technology classes as well as sustainable agriculture, ethno-botany, and Hawaiian language classes.  Always with an open mind and a willingness to listen to all points of an argument before making a decision, he brings to Hawaiian Horticulture a concern for the future of farming in such a small and easily impacted place.

Hawaiian Horticulture products have been designed with the help of PhD horticulturalists and sometimes over trial periods of years to decades.  Some of our products have been packaged or developed by other companies, these products are always tested by Hawaiian Horticulture for quality and accurate advertising claims.  This ensures that all products purchased through Hawaiian Horticulture are of quality ingredients and eco friendly.  We make sure that all of our organics are produced in Hawaii or at least imported with minimal eco disturbance; this means no large bags of bat guano that has been stolen from another countries ecosystem just so you can feel like you are growing organic (to use an example).

Hawaiian Horticulture is a business organized at the request of local consumers for easy access to quality growing supplies at competitive prices and, above all, customer service.  We carry locally produced organics and fertilizers including our own line of soils, liquid fertilizer, citrus foliar spray, and hydroponic nutrients.
