Hawaiian Horticulture HiHo™ and HiHoLo™ are members of our line of natural food grade products.

Disclaimer: Food grade does not necessarily mean edible as our products tend to be highly concentrated.  Our food grade products are non-toxic (in dilute form when used as directed) and can be used in the production, processing, and storage of food, and added to household catchments, pools, and hot-tubs (water temperature can affect pH levels; contact a professional when using with pools and hot-tubs).  Our food grade products safely interact with common pool/catchment/food processing chemicals (in dilute form when used as directed) such as sodium hypochlorite.

Coming Soon:
Hawaiian Horticulture would like to introduce two new products that will be introduced in a few weeks.
The first will be an Organic Kelp Based foliar spray/root dip. With a full complement of micronutrients, cytokinans, and beneficial organisms it also has a macronutrient content of .3- 0-.6
The Second product we are really proud of. An Organic Compost Tea Bag that can be planted as a root zone feeder or used as a stand-alone compost tea in hydroponics or liquid feeding. The bags have a nutrient content of 4-6-4 and full micronutrient compliment. The bags come impregnated with mycorrhizae and trichoderma for root health and increased nutrient uptake. The high level of available phosphorous is a wonderful development for use in organics and soil-based vegetable production.
We are still developing packaging so please be patient. If you contact us, in advance, we can arrange a back-order with a 10% discount.

pH is the measure of acid/base relations within a liquid solution. pH affects the breakdown of organic elements, general health of plant/soil, and solubility/availability of nutrients. Strict management of pH is necessary when growing hydroponics, continuous production with high input crops, or in areas with a lot of acid rain.

Below is a chart describing pH/nutrient interactions
the red line at pH 6.2 shows optimum balance for micro and macronutrient solubility

Nutrient Solubility

HiHo™ is a natural pH increaser (in liquid form) designed for interaction with hydroponic nutrients.
HiHo
has a nutrient content of
0-0-75 but should not have to be added in amounts that would affect EC levels of tank.  A 20x concentrate can be special ordered for tanks larger than 10,000 gallon such as catchments and swimming pools.

CAUTION: The concentrated form (.01M potassium hydroxide) has a pH above 12.2 and can burn skin, clothing, and synthetics; wash immediately with room temperature water for a minimum of 15 min. should exposure to concentrate occur.  The 20x concentrate (2.0M potassium hydroxide) will burn very quickly and is very polar (sticks to skin); immediately call a poison control center and rinse with large volumes of room temperature water and liquid soap.  If exposure to large amounts of 20x concentrate occurs then rinse exposed area with cooking/olive oil, this will make the concentrate easier to rinse off with soapy water.

HiHoLo™ is a natural pH decrease (in crystal or liquid form) designed for interaction with hydroponic nutrients and food processing.

Types

HiHoGrow™ is our exclusive rooting hormone, designated acceptable for food crop production.

Most rooting compounds on the market work well but are made from chemicals not suitable for plants intended for human consumption.  The honest ones say "not for use on fruits/vegetables" on the package but many neglect to put this in readable print.

HiHoGrow™ uses ingredients derived from organic sources, which have natural root stimulating properties.  We don’t claim to induce rooting as efficiently as the chemical rooting agents but you will notice rapid, commercial propagation quality, root emergence from your fruit, vegetable, and herb cuttings.

For best results mix 10-30 ml of HiHoGrow with one cup (8 oz.) water.  Use less of a mix for plants that root best using succulent growth and more of a mix for woody stems.  Take a 3”-8”cutting from mother plant and use a sharp knife to put an angled point at the base of your cutting.  This angle will expose as much of the cambium as possible (the cambium is the tissue layer below the ‘bark’ that will produce new roots).  Next, soak the cut end into the solution to desired depth, for about 30-60 seconds depending on age of the branch that the cutting was taken from.  Now place the cut end into inert media under a daily mist.  To reduce rooting times use daily watering with a dilute solution of HiHoGrow into the media, using a mix of 30 ml (one oz.) per gallon, for the first few days of the process.  It’s always best to water-in double the volume of the container: i.e., if your container is one cup then water with two cups solution to ensure proper flushing of the media.
