Hawaiian Horticulture Humic Acid
Humic Acid is a natural substance resulting from the fermentation of certain soil born bacteria and is a sign of healthy soil. Humic acid is a component of Humus (the black earthy smelling soil that plants love) and is essential for organic farming. As a plant grows in soil it uses up the Humic Acid, especially when high grade synthetic nutrients are used as these are absorbed faster by the plant (compared to organics), and therefore, use more humic acid. To maintain soil health or to improve poor soil health is is best to add Humic Acid in the form of compost or as a liquid drench.
Don't be fooled by expensive products that claim pure sources and charge up to TEN TIMES AS MUCH. The effectiveness of Humic Acid is a result of processing, storage conditions, and active ingredients to water ratio. Our Humic Acid is equal in quality and content when compared to the expensive name brands, but much less expensive.
Directions:Can be used alone or mixed with nutrients that do not contain ammonia or high levels of sulfates. Premix in a bucket or use an injector.
-For potted plants, ornamentals, fruits, and vegetables use 1 tablespoon (15 ml) per gallon per month.
-For soil, lawn, and garden use 2-3 oz (60-90 ml) per 100 sq ft as needed.
-Foliar use 5-15 ml per gallon, depending on need. Drench entire plant (including fruit).
-Hydroponics at 150ppm (about 2-5 ml per gallon).
Uses: -Increases beneficial microbe activity and soil health while buffering pH.
-Enhances micronutrient uptake.
-Foliar spray impairs harmful fungus while improving flavor, color, and marketability.
The main purpose of Humic Acid is to chelate metals and micronutrients for easy uptake by plants. Consider metals (such as copper) as sharp knives floating around that would harm our plant and chelation is a sheath that keeps the plant safe from the sharp edges. Humic Acid also helps maintain pH at desirable levels for nutrient solubility and beneficial bacterial growth (notice that "acid-loving" plants such as pine and azalea grow in very black soil colored by the abundance of Humic Acid). The benefits of Humic Acid can be applied to the soil or as a foliar spray (to stimulate acid growth that briefly permeates cell walls) to improve fruit taste and the penetrating effectiveness of other sprays.
Our Humic Acid is completely compatible with all pesticides, foliar sprays, fertilizers, and hormones that do not contain
liquid ammonia or high levels of sulfates.
By itself our Humic Acid will inhibit fungal growth and improve fruit flavor by increasing ion exchange in sugars and nutrients, blocking hormonal stress signals, increasing alosteric enzyme activity, charging the 'ion state' of membranes making them more resistant to virus and bacteria, and acting as an anti-oxidant by chelating unneeded metals.
Other benefits include Auxin-like (hormonal) qualities such as induced acid growth of roots, young leaves, and fruit. Seed germination time is decreased as germination percentage is increased. Salt build-up is usually caused by excess nutrients or drought and these build-ups are broken down by humic acid. |
