Pakay Ice Cream-Bean Tree
Inga feuilli

A sub-tropical tree that grows well in containers and back porches. Is quite hardy, for a sub-tropical, and can survive a few frosts but must be over wintered indoors when grown in temperate regions.
Very fast growing and will produce edible fruit within 5 years. Fruit is a 6"-18" pod that contains the edible white flesh that covers the black seeds. The flesh tastes remarkably like vanilla ice cream.
This is the Pakay (South American variety) that bears larger fruits than the typical Inga edulis and is slightly hardier. The 'beans' bear more edible flesh and drops less leaf litter.
shipped as seeds
Seeds tend to germinate right inside the pod so we think that it is best to ship you sanitized, unopened, pods. These typically contain 6-10 seeds with about half beginning to germinate.
If you wish to receive dormant seeds we will ship packets of 10 selected seeds.
Seedlings will be a minimal of 6" and shipped either bare root or in peat moss.
This plant requires little fertilizer and water and enjoys full sun exposure. Using organic, slow-release, fertilizer and a daily irrigation system will greatly increase growth and improve fruit quality.
